Support for Parents
Mary Hare School offers a number of practical ways of helping with the transition from homelife to residential life:
Going home at weekends
Wherever possible, children are encouraged to spend weekends at home. In fact many families who live more closely at hand play host to 'friends' from Scotland or Nothern Ireland.
Visits by parents during term time
The school has provided a three-bedroomed cottage and a small caravan park for parents wishing to visit their children at School.
Pastoral Care
A member of the School staff acts as Head of Pastoral Care and liaison takes place between the School and the residential houses. The School has a 'visitor' and all pupils have access to counselling if required. There is further liaison with outside professionals whenever there is a need.
Health
The School operates 24-hour nursing cover with one full-time and one part-time Reigstered General Nurse. There is a small four-bed sick bay. Many of the staff have first aid qualifications. It is School policy to inform parents as soon as possible of illness or injury and where appropriate for children to be returned home to recover.
Parents' Complaint Procedure
Mary Hare School has a publicised procedure for parents who wish to complain about any aspect of their child's care whilst at Mary Hare School.
