Who is Mary Hare School for?

Mary Hare School is a national school for profoundly and severely deaf children.  Our pupils come from all over the UK and some from overseas.  Pupils are aged from 5 to 19 years.

We look at the all round development of the pupils who attend the School.  Each child who comes to Mary Hare has his or her own 'unique' story and it is our role to listen to these children and families, with the aim of establishing if Mary Hare can meet their needs. We want to engage with parents and encourage them to make an informed choice for their child.

The School educates using an auditory oral method.  Pupils come from a range of communication backgrounds, including sign and oral.  We have recently established a class for children with severe language delay, to help them to improve their language skills and access the full curriculum.

Most pupils attending the School represent the 'average intelligence'.  Mary Hare is an 'ordinary school' in terms of the range of pupils admitted, that achieves 'extraordinary results'.
