Years 8 - 11

Pupils in years 8 – 11 are housed in single-sex Houses. This is only compromised when a particular year group has an unusually high proportion of girls or boys, when we may have to make special arrangements within existing accommodation.

The Manor

Arlington Manor is a large mansion standing in extensive parkland and woodland, its large, airy rooms commanding magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. In addition to dormitories and common rooms for one hundred girls, the Manor House contains the administrative offices of the school.

Around the House are gardens and lawns and the 156 acre estate provides ample space for association football, hockey, cricket, netball, tennis, golf and athletics.

“Since (our daughter) has started at Mary Hare School, we have seen a great difference in her. She has regained her love of learning and enjoyment of being at school – something she had lost in the previous years at mainstream school.

Her confidence and her awareness of her identity as a deaf person has increased so much within this environment that obviously encourages and nurtures these so important emotions and skills."

Mansell House

Mansell House , a separate boarding house for boys, was built during the year 1961 - 1962.  It provides dormitories and common rooms.

"Without you faith in me, I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't have the good speech I have developed with Miss Tufnell, I wouldn't have the self-control and self-confidence.  I have also developed lots of friends here.

I believe that I have done enough in the past seven years to show that it was right for you to put your faith in me.  I am now going to an Arts Foundation year in Belfast and hopefully onto university after that.

I wouldn't have believed that I could get this far - I never thought that when I was ten years old - thank you for that"

A new Boarding House for Year 11 pupils

We are currently raising funds to build a new Boarding House for Year 11 pupils.  The House will have study bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, shared by two pupils.  It will be fully internet accessible and provide rooms for children with mobility difficulties.  Look at our fundraising pages to find out more.
